Premier Deck in an 850 - need antenna
I have an older Pioneer Premier deck laying around and since I don't listen to tapes anymore, I am swapping it out with the stock Volvo unit. I've got the wiring harness, dash pocket, and everything is ready to go, except for one snag...
The Volvo obviously has a power antenna. My Premier deck doesn't have a wire for a power antenna. My question is, is it possible to just jump the power antenna wire on the wiring harness to the A/C wire so the antenna comes up when the car is turned on (regardless of stereo being on)? I don't use automatic car washes so I'm not worried about ripping the antenna off. I just need the antenna to go up so I get radio reception. And if anyone knows, is it possible to hook up an iPod through the Aux. inputs using simple RCA cables like I do with my home stereo, or is there a trick to it? I couldn't get any aux. sound through the deck. Thanks in advance. :) On a side note: Volvo batteries don't last very long when you're playing with a stereo and the car isn't running...... |

Does the deck have any sort of switched power? Maybe labled amp or something like that. I believe that would be a relatively thin blue wire. If not, and you want the antenna to go up when the car is on, just hook up the lead to a switched power source: the cig lighter comes to mind. Thing is, if you do, you won't be able to put the antenna down when you go through a car wash. What I would do is to hook it up the the cig lighter, but also put a toggle switch in so that you can retract it while the car is running.

Please re-check the wiring diagram of your older Pioneer Premium car audio unit. Even my circa 1970's Pioneer Supertuner unit had a blue wire for power antenna.

Blue wire out of the Pioneer h/u is the amp or antenna wire. Don't have one, then the ACC. wire is best bet.
