PTC valve question

what exactly is the electrical plug on the PTC for?

its a useless heater designed by volvo to heat up the oil vapors coming through the tube from the oil trap.
This is what I believe it to be, I may be wrong. However your car will run perfectly fine without it. But if it is in your car still, then make sure it is clean
