Question - Reset Service Light 850T 1996 - Window Guards

Hey Ladies and Gents

Question, my Service Light came on and my mechanic can't reset it. I found a thread on reseting 93-95 with OBD 1 has anyone else figured out this issue with the 96 + 850's?

Secondly, has anyone come across a site where I can purchase those window guards? I'm trying to find the clip on ones because I've heard that the visors with 3m tape on the back ruins your paint.

Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated

The 96 and up cars need a special tool to reset them.

Thanks for the reply tech.

dang lol now both of my cars have service/check engine lights on that i can't fix without paying a ridiculous reason.
And neither of them have anything wrong with them.

Isn't it always that way!!

Hey,
The service light is only a 'dummy' light. Best thing to do is remove the bulb. Taking out the dash is pretty easy. TECH posted a great dash removal guide that is on this website. I needed to replace the bulbs on my clock, and you may need new speaker in the dash too.

Good luck

two ways to reset 96 850 service lights.

1. research 'draper reset tool'
2. laptop or pc with a serial port, then a vagcom cable, about $10, and a tiny bit of software called vol-fcr.

I use the second method on my 96.
Gives the advantage of being able to read and reset fault codes as well.

I use vol-fcr too; but it doesn't read the engine codes--you have to make a flash-code reader for that. (Unless there's a version of vol-fcr that does read them that I don't know about?)
