"R" or "T5-R" ECU issue...
Hey, I just received my ecu from a guy on ebay, he assured me it was from a 97 850 R, here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT Now, I disconnected the positive terminal on the battery, after i've installed the ecu, the car won't start, turns over, but no start. Should I have disconnected the both the positive and negative terminals of the battery before installation? I also have a flashing arrow and a check engine light from this. Oh, the check engine light was from an o2 sensor which I have yet to replace. Before this, I cleared the code and the light never came back on until today. I don't have a scanner on hand, i'll have to go to autozone for it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm uploading videos now... |
You should always completely disconnect the battery just to be safe. Have you done the obvious and swapped in your old ECU yet to make sure the car still starts?

When I put in the new ecu, it trips the fan to come on? IDK car still doesn't start. This man needs to give me my money back. I think he tampered with it, the casing felt loose before I opened it up... |
I called up ipd and spoke with a rep. He states that the ecu numbers have to match. 072,628,936 no matter what years. So i've been reading all over that a bosch 628 ecu is compatible with an 850 turbo,t5 but never heard of anyone's scenario anywhere close to mine... all i hear is plug and play.
I guess i've been reading this stuff wrong and been told wrong for almost a year now. Guess i'm out $130. time to start saving for other crap. |
Still might be useful to someone else, look to sell it.
|
*sigh* it's in the for sale section. $150 or best offer.
|
Sorry to hear, at least it didnt fry your system. What is your ECU number?
|
I got the vin from donor car:YV1LS5821V2386461. My vin is YV1LS572XV1368421
Ok seems legit, it's an R, 1997, made in ghent, belgium. Mine is a 1997 T5, made in torslanda, sweden. Same bosch motronic 4.3 ecu, no egr, no air pump, w/ obd-II, w/elec. control evap. Well I have no clue. guess I just need a chip tune. Boxpin- my ecu is 072. I checked my ac over and over, it's fine. |
It should work. I would try to find someone with an 850 Turbo and test it in their car. Don't rule out that the ECU is fubared.
|
My thoughts were the same that the ECU numbers had to match. When I was reading when you 1st talked about this (before you received it) I was thinking the same thing...guess I should have chimed in!
Gilber could be correct as well the ECU might be bad! Someone will pick it up from you. Hit that dude up who put a new thread up about his 1995 850 T5 he just bought...make sure the ECU is good 1st though;)!! |
Yes. Please do not even think about selling it until you try it in another car to confirm that it is good. Because as far as I know, the only thing that has to match in the ECU is the years, otherwise they're plug and play.
|
I'm sending back the ecu to the seller tomorrow.

I am running a 96-97 Upsolute tune in my 95 T5-R right now with no issues. I have swapped the same ECU between many car without an issue.
2 things strike as odd. 1. The cooling fan coming on. 2. There is no tach signal when cranking with the new ECU in. |

When I was done I tried the T-5R ECU and the car would not start. It started with the Wagon ECU. The Wagon ECU was an 072 but the T-5R ECU was not. So to say that the same years are plug and play...I would say not. Later I purchased another 072 on ebay that I used while IPD was flashing mine. 072 to 072 worked but same years did not. |
I hope I run across it now because I want to figure out what the difference it for myself.
