Radio problem, Volume control
 

ok so i have a 97 850 and im having the oddest problem, my radio glitches out where if i try to turn the volume down it turns up, mostly only when i try to turn it down alittle, so it doesnt happen all the time. The only way to fix it is to turn it firmly and rather quickly. if anyone has any ideas please tell me!!!

Use electronic contact cleaner to clean the potentiometercontrolled bythe knob. You might have to remove the radio and disassemble it to do this.

My volume control is the same. After I cleaned it with spray, one front speaker works at lower volumes and the rest only work at higher volumes, unless we use "Technicial Tapping" on the volume knob with a finger nail. But at least one speaker will provide lower volume for a change.

Yes weirdly even if i put my foot on the gas or the clutsh foot. and also if i turn the nob on the radio, sometimes volume go's up and down by itself if i don't even touch radio or controls on steringwheel.

i gonna open it and take out the radio, maybe loose cables? don't know.
btw can you put in any car radio in that part? can i put in a new radio? or will that not fit ?

850s use a standard "double DIN" sized radio and you can find adaptor connectors on eBay or google for the factory connector pin out. Swapping in a replacement Volvo radio is pretty easy as well provided the unit you buy comes with the code or the donor car VIN. Just press the two vertical tabs on the outside and the radio slides right out - no tools involved... I guess that's why they need a code LOL
