Recall R139, gas tank heat shield question

I've been trying to do some research on my issue here, and am just looking for some insight from the group. I am not the original owner of my '96 850R wagon. The recall in question, R139 for the gas tank heat shield bushings was performed on 10/21/05 while under the ownership of the previous owner, and the bushings were installed between the heat shield and mounts on the tank. I have owned the car for about two years. Recently, I have noticed a gas smell from the rear of the car. More recently (this pas Saturday) I heard a rattling noise from the back of the car. Upon inspection, I found the head shield between the tank and exhaust had broken free from the rear most mount and was swinging and hitting on the exhaust. It appears as though there has been some fuel leakage around this area. I called my local Volvo dealership and they said the recall had already been performed. I called Volvo corporate, and they pretty much said the same thing and that I am S.O.L. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone come across the same scenario or something similar? I am being very polite and understanding with everyone I am dealing with, and I'm not trying to argue my case, rather being respectful and understanding.

Once the bushings are installed they are through with the warranty. If they had noticed cracks when doing the recall they would have replaced the tank. But once the recall has been done you are basically on your own.

I have seen it happen a few times.

Tech,

Thank you for taking the time to repond to my post. The rep. at Volvo corporate basically told me that there was a 1 year parts warrenty on the bushings, but after that it's on me, especially after the time frame we're looking at after the recall was performed and the fact I am not the same owner since it was done. Oh well, looks like I'll have to bit the big one on this one.

BTW, glad you're home. I wish you a speedy recovery.
