Recommended oil Brand for N/A 96' 850
This question has probably been answered dozens of times but...
What is the recommended oil brand and viscosity to use on the 2.4 NA engine in the winter. (20-40 F) I do tend to run out the gears a bit longer sometimes for fun (revving to 4,500-5k before up-shifting) so should I factor that in to my selected oil? Thanks! -Luke |
I am a fan of the "high mileage" blends from brand name providers (Castrol, Quaker State etc can easily be found at Walmart) as they have seal softeners. I also use 10/40 in my 850T year round here in Connecticut where we can see 0F or below during a cold snap.
Synthetic oils tend to maintain their viscosity better in cold so you may want to try a synthetic blend or convert to full synthetic - but I'd only do that after running high mileage oil for a change or two to allow the seal softener to work. Otherwise if its really cold where you live you should consider 5-30 or 5-40. |
I own a 96 base model 850 naturally aspirated 5 spd manual wagon with 324,000 miles on the clock. I use any major brand 5w-30 synthetic blend and change every 5,000 miles.

If your winter temps are only 20-40f then I imagine your summers are pretty hot. For winter you should run 10w-30 and summer 10w-40 or 20w-50. For one oil year round I would choose 10w-40
