Reconnecting Starter part 1 of recovery

I am tryinng to reconnect a starter in a 850 T5R. I have the wires sitting near the back of the starter but noit sure which wires go where and am

not sure of the nuts size to connect and if there should be any washer or such in place. I will try to attach a picture of the back of the starter and the wire leads.

This is like step 4, preious tings done.:
replaced subframe bushing on (super rubber thingies) on front subframe
front engine mount on subframe ( only 2 of 3 bolts in place due to engine bolt insert broken)
replaced damaged lower subframe

Welcome to VF chain123 :D

I don't know the size of the nuts but it's usually helpful to have a flat washer between the nut and the wire end terminal so it doesn't twist as you're tightening down the nut. Adding a split lock washer between the nut and flat washer is a good thing too.

So thank you “pierce” for moving to the correct sub forum. Thank you “Kiss4aFrog” for the response. Seeing the picture from Kiss4aFrog helps. I just want to make sure. I see in the area: 1 black wire with a ring termination on it that looks like it goes on one post of the starter solenoid that is further from the front of the car and is closets to the engine; a green wire with a female spade connector that I expect connects to the male spade connector on the starter solenoid; then I have 2 red cables that are very thick with ring connectors - it looks like both of those go on the screw post of the starter solenoid closets to the front of the car.

And to to just let you know why I am double checking; this what I am starting with and trying to work on.. Next after the start is the radiator then figuring on hoses and small items needed.

The big bolt closer to the engine is going to go hot while cranking. I have no idea what you would want to get power there for. No clue. I guess you can try it. It can't hurt anything. However, if it was me, I would be figuring out where that wire goes.

Green wire turns the starter on.

The other ring terminals all go on the other stud, as you say. Always. That is battery power. Those red wires will be hot all the time.

Every car is the same here, honestly. Nothing volvo about starter wiring.

If, IF what you tagged as a black wire runs up to the coil positive terminal that would be the only reason that wire would be on the on/off side of the solenoid. When cranking it gives full voltage to the coil for a hotter starting spark by bypassing an external resistor. Not sure if your vehicle has an external resistor.
What year 850 do you have?

Thank you for the responses I was trying to figure out were things were going because I saw just the 2 screw connectors on the solenoid. Looking closer and investigating I found out that there was a spade connector I was not seeing so that solved it for green wire. I was concern on having 2 red wires, I did know one went to the solenoid and expected one was coming from the battery. I was just sure about the second red wire. My son ripped everything out of the bay and this is what I am starting with and I am unsure what will fill all the space and I was wondering if the second red wire went to something else.

Looking at the picture from Kiss4aFrog I could see there is 2 red wires (hot) going to one of the screw posts..

Now that has been solved I am moving onto removing the radiator since it was leaking after the accident.

Again in thank you for the input and info.
Ths is a 1995 T5R.

I forget how it was wired on the 850 (I got rid of my 850T wagon years ago), but on a lot of cars, the 2nd red wire at the starter goes to the alternator B+ output, these are connected together at the starter. this alternator B+ to starter wire is often a little less beefy than the starter to battery wire
