I'm not complete sure about autos, but manuals are only interchangeable between 94/95 and 96/97, different systems for the speedometers between those years (speed sensor vs abs module). I assume it would be the same for autos, and I'm not exactly sure about 93's, I would say that if any tranny would fit in it, it would be a 94 or 95.

I would check the transmission model numbers, best and safest to trade tit-for-tat.

Another thing to note here, some wreckers have cross reference software. That might be a valuble source to find a definate answer.

Sounds like you have someone on the inside that can help, thats good.

For 94/95 the speedometer sensor connects to the transmission casing, in 96/97, the speedometer sensor is spliced in with the ABS module, at least that's what I've read for the manuals. Both transmissions will fit, it's just how the speedometer gets its signal that is different.

The 93 transmission is supposed to be a one year only tranny.

There's no quality difference between the 93-95 transmissions and the 96-97 (98 70 series, too) transmissions. The only difference is the speed sensor. 93-95 have them, 96-up do not. And there's no hole for it, either, so it will not work. As for 93 being 1 year only, I do not know for sure... if that's the case, sorry to hear it, but even then, the difference might be something that can be worked around. 93 850s are kind of a bastard car, anyway, with their different lights, different hubs, etc.

There is something about the wiring in the tranny. It will drive but it will also set codes all the time for incorrect gear ratio.

There is like 8 or 10 different gear ratio's between 93 and 97.

i talk to my friend inside the volvo company and he said to me i can replace my 93 transmission with the 97 and for the speedometer he told me he can wire the speedometer sensor to another part i don't no what it is but it will work 100% and will cost 50$ only .

Sounds good if he knows how to wire it all up.
