Replacing the Power Antenna

Help! How do I replace a broken antenna? Mine snapped right at the base, cable is still intact. Right now it's hanging off my car in a most pathetic way. Before it broke it was just stuck in the extended position. The carwash finished the job of breaking it for me today. Any advice?

Replacing the Power Antenna

I ordered one for$20 bucks from http://www.europartsdirect.com/. Its pretty easy to fix, but you have to remove the old antenna first. Take out the assembly from the trunk and open the bottom part of the case which contains the coiled antenna-fragment -note the direction of the teeth in relation to the center of the spool. Take out the old one and then re-assemble empty. Reinstall the empty assembly into the trunk and secure the external nut (I cant remember, but you might have to thread the new antenna through the nut before tightening it - see the next few steps). Take the new antenna and uncoil the plastic gear-string (or whatever its called). Have someone turn the stereo on (antenna up). Now push the plastic gear-string into the empty antenna base until it stops - hold the metal part of the antenna above the hole because next its going to be pulled down by the antenna motor, and has to go right into place. Have someone turn off the stereo - the spool should grab the plastic cord and coil it up. The antenna should slide back into place - be ready as this happens pretty fast. Recently the new antenna got bent in an auto-carwash - now I have to replace it again! <edited><editID>Nissan_convert</editID><editDate>38034.9972453704</editDate></edited>
