I can't wait to take my roof strips off and paint them. Every time I drive through the coffee stand the girls are above me and they smile all nice and pretty and then... frown when they look down andnotice that the black material has peeled away from the strip just above my driver's seat.
Every girl does the same thing at every coffee stand. Isn't that sad? It's like clockwork. I wait for... the smile... then that little look of confusion... then the frown. Man I want to paint those strips!! Oh wait, I thinkIsaid that already. lol |

Still think finding a set from a junked 98 model S70 is the way to go. Take old ones off put new ones on and you're done. The ones on the S70 do not peel and they have that window lip.

Took the time to sand mine down this weekend. Came out real nice. So nice in fact, I opted to not paint them. Looks great on the silver wagon.

Did you remove them from the car or did you do the work with them on the car? Did you take photos as you were doing the work? Again, Good job. Nice and shiny. |

The previous owner of my white 1997 R apparently was removing the coating as it became ragged. I didn't even realize they were supposed to be black until I saw what little black was left at the windshield was not even on both sides. I like the look of the silver trimon the white, though I'll need to remove the rest and polish them up.

Went from grey to black and I will not go back!

So did you have to remove the trim - or you just grab a paint brush and start working? Actually, I did remove the trim. Easiest part of the job. But be careful with the torx screws, you dont want to drop one inside the door. You will never get them back. Here is a link to a slide show of the work that was done. When you say to pull these strips toward you, while standing at the side of the car, can you clarify?
First do you take off the front an back caps? When you pull, will the outer edges of the trim "let go" of their clips? So they don't slide off the clips, but "pop off"? Thanks for clarification. I'd rather not mess up and have to try to find new clips. |

i am gonna do that soon!..i have back to black and that works well..i applied it about a week ago and it has been raining non stop since then and it has held up and looks very black to me but i dont knwo how long it will last..and its very time consuming and leaves residue around the mouldings.. |

Love the look (and idea) of painting the bumpers black, but if someone wants to get them to the factory gray, IPD has what you need. I use it all the time with a lot of success...

This is a permanent dye so it will last, during application just be carefulif you get it on other unwanted areas just wipe it off with a dry cloth before drying, if a wet cloth is used it will go into the paint. Nice to have the options of both colors, my original was grey but did everything in black and love it. Good-luck.;) |
im a little confused... did the cars come with different color trims at one point, one being black and the other the dark gray shown at the start of the thread, or do some people just prefer it black? i got a dark green 95 glt, and by the looks of the door trim (its the least discolored) it looks like i have the dark gray.
And are the roofrails supposed to match whatever color your trim came in? or are they just black |
