SACHS strut mount defective?

Hi folks, just received a pair of Sachs strut mount plates. While trying to turn or spin, the bearings are very rough or not fluid compared to the old ones that spin freely. They actually make a scratching sound while trying to turn them. Anyone know if this is normal or should I send back to FCP? Thanks. 96 850 GLT

My experience is that new strut bearings have that characteristic that you described. The old one is smooth because it is just worn out.

If in doubt, call and ask. If it doesn't feel right, get another set.

I agree with Tony - plus I never experienced a strut bearing failing on an 850. Almost invariably its the spring seat where the metal insert separates from the hard rubber. While the new part may seem firm to the hand, it won't be noticed when installed.

Try putting pressure on it and turning it. You obviously won't be able to simulate the weight of the car, but it should be smoother with pressure on it.
