Sluggish wipers
Anybody have the issue where their wipers behave sluggishly and even stop at times half way through the wipe motion? Is the wiper motor about to die on me?
|
Sounds like the motor is going, but you can check the linkage for any binding first, and also lube it up good

Have the *exact* same thing happening to me... Plan to pull the transmission assembly this weekend and grease it up to see if it helps any...

So Dads850, did the grease job help? Thinking I might do the same. Just waiting for it to get a little warmer!!

Well, unfortunately I never got a chance to mess with it... I'm sure that it will though. Last summer sometime (can't remember exactly when) and after 250,000 miles, the linkage worked itself lose to the point where the wipers wouldn't wipe at all so I pulled it to tighten it up. The problem that I have started about that time. So, I'm very confident that if I lube it up and adjust the torque on the linkage it will be fine :)

Follow up
As a follow up, I bought a new motor as the wipers had stopped moving entirely. Took the assembly apart, attached the new motor and still no movement! Looked at the wiper linkage a little closer and realized that the passenger side wiper pivot had seized completely. No amount of manipulation or penetrating oil would correct the issue. Strange issue as the pivot seems to be sealed but I guess these Canadian winters have taken it's toll! ;-)
So if your wipers are sluggish and stopping, check the linkage and the pivots for easy movement, as that may be the issue. All the best, Edward |
Still have yet to pull it all out to look at it. Not really a hassle right now and when it gets nice out and I'm bored I may see what's going on. However, if your pivot point is seized, can that rivet be replaced with a small bolt or something if needed? Just looking for a heads up before I pull mine...

You can fix them. There is a real good writeup on the subject here:
