Strange smoke

Hi all,
I have a 94' 850 turbo with auto trans, and while I was driving home today I had a puff of smoke come out of under the hood on the passenger side and a little coming in through my vents. It disapated (sp) quickly but made me real nervous. This happend after I had made a right hand turn and drove for about a 1/2 mile and came to a stop at a light. The car still idled fine, the A/C was still cold and I didn't hear any strange noises.

I had the A/C on and the car in sport mode. Then when I got home which was about about 3/4 mile from the light, I backed up in our driveway (it has an incline) and put the car in park. Thats when another small puff of smoke came out from the same place - but none through the vents this time. With the car running, I opened the hood to take a look and didn't see anything strange. I did notice that the tension arm was wobbling a little bit but thought this might be normal.

Any clues as to what this may be or what may have happened?

Thanks in advance,
Mit

What color was the smoke? Any strange noises associated with it? ANy sweet/ burnt rubber smells? Check your coolant level in the car and make sure you are not leaking any coolant (or other fluids for that matter) Could be a leak getting onto something hot, or something rubbing (like a belt)

Thanks for quick response!

The smoke was white and it didn't smell like any rubber burning. I almost want to say that it was an oil-ish type smell but not quite. It wasn't an antifreeze type of smell either. Also, there were no strange noises. This happened yesterday and it has not done it today yet. I do have some small leaks. Maybe an 1" dia. spot overnight. I think it's my oil lines to the turbo or something. Also, the belt doesn't look glazed or anything and seems to be in good shape.

I checked all of my fluid levels (coolant, oil and trans) and they all are fine. I wonder if the old car was just blowing out some old crap or something because one thing that I did notice that everything is spooling up a little faster.

When this did happen, no warning lights came on or anything and all of the lights do work in the dash.

Oil might have dropped onto the exhaust.

Thanks, guys. If it happens again I'll try to get a little more specifics but it hasn't happened again so far.

Thanks again! :D
