Default car wont start

My 1995 850 turbo sedan is not turning over. If I leave it parked for a few days it will be hard to start, especially if I leave it parked on a hill facing uphill. It has always started before, but slowly with some shaking like it is working to get gas to the engine. I left it parked for 2 days, now it wont turn over at all, I hear the starter but no firing. I sprayed some starter in the intake, no luck. Any suggestions ? this seems like something simple. Thank you

A few basic things you need to start an engine...fuel, air, compression and spark. In the right time of course. Start with error codes do you have any if so what are they...this is the best place to start. So, you already have fuel I presume by the fact you sprayed starter fluid in the intake. Next is ignition remove a plug and lay it on the head to make sure it is 'grounded' then have someone turn the engine over...if it sparks then you have the ignition element solved. Next check compression, to make sure you haven't thrown a timing belt or busted one and your valves hit the pistons and well...all hell broke loose inside ur engine...Provided you have compression then take a good look at your fuel supply system, filter, pump ect...making sure you have good fuel pressure at the rail and your injectors aren't plugged...

An update on this post: First of all thank you for your reply and your help. I went down the road to the Volvo shop and they told me the lifters might have gone flat and to crank it for up to 3 minutes, It is cold out and that might have something to do with it as well. So I rolled it into the sun and put a space heater under the hood for half an hour, I cranked it for 30 seconds straight and it started! Obviously, I am not terribly mechanically inclined, but I got it started and saved some $, I can spend that on a brake job!

I would also use full synthetic 5W-30 with MANN filter until winter is over.

Your 850 may need more stuff; see my 1st & 2nd replies at:
