Those foggy tail lights...
the tail lights on my '96 850 GLE are really foggy, I've tried rubbing compound and elbow grease but it made no difference, any suggestions?
Thanks |
Are they foggy on the inside or the outside? And when you say Fog do you mean that the plastic is worn/dull/scratched on the outside or could it be condensation buildup on the inside?
If dull on the outside, I'd look to some wet sanding with a very fine grit, and then coat them with Armor All or some other plastic rejuvenator. If its condensation on the inside, disassemble them and dry them out well. |
Hi there, the fog is of the outside variety just weathered plastic. when they are wet they look fine but when they dry they are whitish and crusty looking.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, do the wet sanding - probably use several grits to remove any fogging. Maybe after that you can shoot it with a rattle can of clear coat. That's just a thought so I don't know if it'll work well.

go to an auto parts store and get a lens cleaning kit.

+1 on the lens cleaning kit. They even have one that attaches to a cordless drill now, which saves your arms. That's what I did on mine, then put nightshades on them, then clearcoated them. After the clearcoat cured, I wet sanded that too.
