Transmission Problem
Hi
I am a proud owner of a Volvo 850 GLT 2.5 that have a problem of my auto transmission. The problem is the gear will not change for gear 1st to gear 2nd during cold. After the transmission warmed, it will have not problem with gear changing at any speed. Please advise what could be the problem. Thanks a lot for you help. |
Have you checked the condition and level of the transmission fluid?
What year is it ??
Have you followed the Volvo procedure for checking fluid level ?? What color does the fluid look ?? Do you have a check engine light on, a flashing arrow ?? |
Transmission Problem
My Volvo 850GLT is year 1994.
The transmission level is filled to the fill mark. The fluid is red in colour. |
There is not flashing arrow sign at all
if there isnt a flashing light, may be you need to do a ATF change. make sure the flashing arrow dash light works. turn on the ignition, do not start the car, make sure you see an arrow light up on the dash. l think its between the check engine light and SRS. am not sure. but check for that and make sure nobody removed the flashing arrow dash bulb.
Are you sure you checked the fluid level properly? Was the car running and the tranny hot?
To check the bulb, look at this video which should start at 1 minute. The arrow in the corner is the light that should work for you.
Since you have a '94, your OBD-I port under the hood will have any transmission errors stored in it. I'll post a video on how to check the port later today for you.
The fluid level is good and red in colour. Mileage only 100,000km. Will waiting for your video.
Here you go man. Check the A1 port, then the A5 port. Then post the codes here.
There is no fault on the transmission code. Please advise what could be the problem.

Most transmission shops offer a free diagnosis / test drive. You might want to take a couple up on the offer and see what they have to say. I'd call and ask if the work on your year, make and model before stopping in though. It's best to have someone who works on them do the diag as they would be more likely to know what's going on inside.
