turbo needle out of adjustment after odometer repair

Dear All,
After mining info from this forum and many others, I worked myself up and replaced the small odometer gear on my 1996 850 turbo wagon with VDO instrument cluster. I though I had been very careful about not bumping the instrument needles during the whole process but now the turbo indicator is postioned about 5-10 degrees clock-wise from 12:00 when the engine is off. It seems to move the correct amount when idleing or driving. Before I take the cluster back out and turn the needle back, is there anything else I should look for? So if it's completely fine while driving then what's the point of taking it out just so the needle is center when the car is off? If it's working completely normal, which it should be if everything is hooked up properly, and you said it is, then I wouldn't bother taking it out.

I had this happen to me when I first bought the car. The needle was way off but seem to work fine where it was. It looks like the needle is just pressed on. I put a tiny amount of locktite and pressed it back on.

Thanks for the replys.
While part of the time I can hear when the turbo is assisting, I can't hear it all the time (especially at a low level). That means that when I don't need the extra boost, a properly positioned needle would help me avoid using more fuel than I need. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing another problem. Dan |
You said that when you start the car the needle centers itself right? If so, then it's working. And you can't always hear the turbo. The only time I really hear it is when I punch it.
