Volvo 850 full LED conversion guide (Don't Miss)

Hey guys,

Here is a write-up I did on VolvoSpeed a little while back. It illustrates how anyone can convert their dash lights to LEDs for under $100.

Let me know what you guys think.

I'm open for all questions too if any help is needed!:)

Very Nice write up! I might go this way if I have to replace bulbs..

Very nice, I like the bluish tint on the instrument panel. LEDs are great for these illuminations and they will last a lot longer than the conventional bulbs. For reading/map lights, however, LEDs would have to come with focus lens or the beam would scatter.

Ya, totally decided not to do map lights. Technically not a "full" LED conversion but probably everything you may want to convert.

I am a little confused what the red "X" where on the dash?

And the only flaw I see is the Needles are the same color as the background light. Looks like it is hard to see? If you could, it would be sweet if they where red!

Other than that.....I might do this to my car!

that is where he placed the led's behind the panel

i agree.. dont think its possible to do a 2 color combo though...like jpn said the led's scatter to much light so it would all blend

Do different colors work just as well? I really like BMWs dash lights, the reddish-orange look. Anybody try colors other than blue?

Well, I believe since red light and blue light are opposites, the blue seems to turn the red needles into dark blue. The number were white so the blue light bleeds through fine there. It is actually fairly easy to see at night.

I chose blue over red because I wanted a "calm" feel to the car and I thought red would strain my eyes to much on long night trips. Also, almost no cars come stock with a blue dash. I know many Mazdas come in red and Fords come in green so I thought blue would be looking real pimpish'.

Orange/red would actually work great, but do expect your needle to be the same color as the rest of the dash.

It is possible, but not probable, to get a two-tone look but it would be extremely difficult.
