Volvo 850 smell of gases in the passenger compartment

Hello,First of all, the car is a Volvo 850 (LS) 2.5 10V (140 hp.) with automatic transmission and installed gas system.

For some time we have been struggling with an extremely unpleasant problem, namely the smell of gases in the passenger compartment.
A problem that is probably not very significant at first glance, but it is extremely unpleasant.
To fix the problem, we started with several steps as follows:
- New fuel pump and hose inspection.
- New exhaust manifold
- PCV revision that finds the system working. The glove test was also done, also with a good result.

However, the problem remains. Could anyone give me any pointers on where to continue looking?

Did the smell happen before or after the fuel pump was installed? if after, check the seal between the tank and the pump.

Other things to check out - Evap system, charcoal filter to tank, Fill neck and gas cap.

Considering the replacement of the fuel pump was over a year ago, I'm not 100% sure if the smell started before or after.

Otherwise, I'd rather chalk it up to a smoky smell coming from the car's exhaust system, which led us to replace the exhaust manifold, check the condition of the PCV system (the glove test), check exhaust hoses, etc.

Fuel smell

Could be ruptured fuel tank vent hose. Normally you can smell after fueling

Hello. As i said before, there is not fuel smell at all and the smell is not coming from the back of the car, but from the front.

Today we've changed the PCV, next step is to change the oil and the oil filter and see what happens.
