Default Looking for a tool for my Volvo

I discovered in reading that there is a special tool for compressing the hydraulic piston which provides tension to the tensioner roller and keeps the timing gear tight.

The reading said the tool was expensive and rarely used.

Does anyone know about this tool ? Or have a source for it?

Any info on cost? Part number?

Am curious as to what it is.

Thanks!

Use a vice, slowly. Or replace the hydraulic piston and it comes compressed.

Yeah. A good vise is expensive, but of course you use it all the time. My problem is finding a suitable grenade pin to stick in the hole. You need something strong, and I typically use an allen wrench.

I have used a drill bit to hold the pin.

The spring steel used in larger safety pins may be an option, plus it can be closed, ensuring that the pin does not accidentally cause the plunger to move forward.

I have found one of these and am studying it. I may be making a much cheaper version for anyone who wants one.

Do you use it on the car? That is the only reason I could imagine needing a tool.
