Volvo 850 Turbo - Auto Transmission Problem

Greetings, everyone!

I was driving my volvo 850 Turbo, and then a weird sound started coming out of the hood. So, I didn't care and went on driving. But after a while, the car stopped accelerating, and the RPM was high, but the car wouldn't move forward (I step on the gas, but there isn't any result or energy). I pulled over, and I checked the transmission oil, and it was about 1 liter less. There was oil leakage, but apparently over a long period of time (slow leakage). I filled it with oil to the right level, and I started the car again after it cooled down. I drove for 1 km, but then again, the transmission stopped giving any power as if it was on neutral mode. I tried so many times, but every time I start the car, I put D drive mode, it drives for about 400m, and then it stops accelerating.

- The engine is fine, I recently replaced a new engine.
- I have a problem with the fan, it's always on, I have to unplug it manually.
- I also replaced a new transmission about a year ago.
- I am sure it's not related to GPS (Gear Position Sensor).

I paid a lot of money on this car, and I have problems every now and then, I don't know what's wrong with this car

Any help please? I would strongly appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Thank you!

You should porobably ask rspi, because he knows these cars inside and out

The first thing I would do is make sure the fluid level is correct.

There is an active thread on Matt's site with a similar problem.

I think the problem is electronic but I really have not had to dig into a tranny.

It could be a PNP issue but at the same time it could be a solenoid issue...

What year is your 850?

And forgive me in advance for asking the dumb question but when you're checking fluid level did you follow the Volvo instructions and are you doing it with the engine idling ??

I know you likely know it needs to be running but some people don't. Hell, some people can't even find the stick !!

I normally just start them up (average car) let them idle for a while and pull the stick. On this transmission I've seen a lot of people complain about not being able to get the same reading consistently so it's one of the vehicles I would follow the manufacturers procedure just to make sure you do have a properly filled transmission.
Your symptoms sound like low fluid or loss of pressure in the system.

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
1) Ensure vehicle is level. Apply parking brake and gear
selector lever to "P" position. Start and idle engine. Move gear
selector lever through all gears, while pausing 4-5 seconds for
engagement at each position.
2) Return gear selector lever to "P" position. Wait 2 minutes
and check fluid
