Weird Stalling while braking
Hey guys,
Just replaced the pads and went for a drive to check them out. When I press them pretty hard to a complete stop, the car bogs down and comes very close to stalling, then takes about 10-15 seconds to get back into drive. Now, I have never had to stomp on my brakes before (only did it to test the new pads) and I just noticed this. Anyone have an idea what could cause this? I was thinking low Tranny fluid, and checking the stick, the hot side was just below the line. |
RE: Weird Stalling while braking
Hi,
If you do not have the problem under any other conditions, the engine is probably stalling due to instantaneous increase in the drive-train input (load). If you step on the brake pedal really hard on a snowy/icy road (which I would not recommend doing but good info to know) with a car with no ABS, you would notice that the engine dies. Did you go through each position on the shifter when you checked the transmission fluid level? Go through P-R-N-D-3-L-3-D-N-R-P with the engine at idle and at normal operating temp, stopping about 5 seconds at each position. Your gearbox may be a bit low if the fluid level was slightly under the HOT mark. Top up with Dexron-III/Mercon, using a funnel with extension hose. Also, wait for other members' replies to see what they have to say. JPN |
