Question What is the speaker size?

Hello all,
I have a 1995 Volvo 850 and I want to replace my rear deck speakers, but I am not sure of what size I should get because I am afraid it may not fit into the box that encloses the speaker. Iv searched a few sites but they have confused me, crutchfield.com says that 5-1/4'' replace my rear deck? Another site says 6x9?

Pretty sure both will fit but 6x9 will take some modifications.

The speakers that are in there are a goofy metric size which is why you're having trouble fining a replacement. If my memory is correct 6x9's are a little too big to go inside the Volvo plastic housing. I went with 5x7's and cut a piece of Plexiglas that I glued into the enclosure to adapt to the 5x7's.

bingo, 6x9's will NOT fit you have to mod 5x7's into the box like mhutchens said!

How much do you want to spend? Infinity, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, they're all good brands, but it all depends on what your budget is. Don't cheap out though, you get what you pay for. And DO NOT get them from Walmart.

Question

Hey guys,

i have a 850 to. It's from '96 and it's the short version (not the big trunk). I want to buy some new speakers and a new radio. But now, I need some sizes. What's about the size, which the boxes can go into the door. Do I need to cut some parts out of the back (behind the seats, under the backwindow), if I want to use 6x9 boxes?
Also I could need some informations about the way i have to go with the kabels.

Can you help me with my problems? Sorry for my bad english, I don't know some special esxpressions. I'm from Germany

Thank you guys and some nice greetings,

Jens

6 x 9 in rear but will require mods. 4 x 6 if you want to use the original covers. In the doors it is 5.25" round, but you'll have to drill some new screw holes. Tweeters (?)

Radio is a double din. If you go single din you'll have to use a dash insert.

5x7 will fit in the rear deck inside the original enclosure, I just installed them the other day. But I did have to drill some holes for screws.

Default Rear Deck Speakers

I have a set of rear speaker mounts with the grills for sale. They are already modded for 5x7 or 6x8s Email me if you want them toddml32@yahoo.com. Im in Minnesota. If your using the stock amps like me you will need a 8ohm speaker or they will not sound all that great. I also used infinity tweeters in the front by modding the opening a little while still using the stock mount. If the tweeters work in the rear deck and the magnet has not fallen out yet you can drill the rivets out and use them in the front with out no mod except for a little soildering, they will snap rite in, I did do this first and they sounded good.
