Default Whinny Fuel Pump?

Greetings -

I replaced the fuel pump in my 850 (5-cyl) a few 1000 miles ago. Over the last week, it seems like it is making a lot of noise. Whinny, high pitched type of sound. Any thoughts? I hope its not going again. Its an aftermarket.

Thanks!

Yea, mine started making that sound before it died. My recommendation is to go with Volvo, I went through 2 fuel pumps within a 1 month period. My mechanic said that the after market ones are usually crap (reasons why they don't deal with them anymore), and it's worth spending the few extra bucks to get a Volvo one.

I would say check your fuel filter while your at it, it may be clogged and in some way screwing up your fuel pump.

That stinks... I just changed the fuel filter when I changed the pump. Hmm.. I guess I should start shopping for a pump. Thanks for the info. You recommend any websites for the pump or did you go through the dealer?

Greetings from Chicagoland.

Sorry to hear about the pump, it seems quite expensive.

Here's the on-line vendor I usually use:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo850fuelsystem.htm

Genuine Volvo is at $315. I wonder if you can find a Bosch replacement. It may save you some $$$, and Bosch supplies a number of components to Volvo.

Groton's price is approx. 20-30% less than the dealer's retail. You might find a better deal on Ebay, but I myself don't use Ebay so I don't know.

I wish you luck,

JPN

Hi JPN -

I actually bought this one on Ebay. I have also bought a lot of car parts on Ebay, so its nothing new nor discouraging. Maybe I won't buy pumps on there though

Thanks for the reply -
