Why I suck

So i've had a fairly major oil leak on my car for a while now, and I'm just getting around to addressing it. I sprayed the entire underside of the motor and oil pan down with brake cleaner, then sprayed down the front of the motor with brake cleaner. After enjoying my high (4 cans of brake clean in an enclosed garage will get you higher than god) I ran the motor until it got to operating temperature, then shut down and checked for leaks. I saw no oil on the pan (which makes me suspect is was blowback from somewhere else) so i pulled the intake manifold off to see if I had a leak under there somewhere.

Yep. That's where it was. Turns out that I overtightened the little 90 degree elbow hose on the pcv system and ripped through it. I also did not have the little metal sleeved rubber hose seated on the flame trap very well. Both were soaked in oil, just like everything underneath them.

A word to the wise: make sure you get everything right when you replace your PCV.

Look at it this way...be grateful it wasnt the rear main.

Can't disagree with you there, Boxpin. The thing that sucks is that this could have been avoided had I put stuff back together properly.

Did it look like this (attached)?

Yep, pretty much!

The one in the pic above was defective; if you look at it closely it is swollen up like a balloon. It failed w/in a week or two after installation; failure was NOT caused by incorrect installation, again, it was a defective part. Was wondering if your's was too?

I replaced it with one from the dealer and all was good. Talked about it in my first post here... see post #6 in thread.
