Default C30 License Plate Lamp Holder

I've got a problem. My 2008 C30 seems to chew up license plate lamps on a regular basis. Every time I try to replace one of the lamps, it seems I break the socket. How on earth do I get the socket out of the body? I've a got a new one and see the clips, but how do I get to the old sockets clips to release it. Any help is appreciated.

You need to remove the rear bumper.

NOOO you do not. It was a bitch and a half, but luckily I managed to slide a butter knife in there and turn it enough to break the 10yr old worn out socket's corners and get the squeeze release to compress and come out enough to disconnect it from the wire. Once I got the first one done with a technique in about 25-30mins, the second one only took me about 10mins, because I knew what I was doing and needed to do to get them out. Just be careful you don't pull it too hard coming out so you don't damage the wiring. The entire lamp housing is hell to replace because it has about a 9-10yr lifespan.

Yeah or you could hack it out. The correct way is to remove the bumper cover. Takes 10 minutes to remove.

I literally couldn't find any video or instructions on the internet beforehand to do so, and that's specifically what I was looking for for over an hour before I just decided to jerry rig that thing out. At least if I need to in 10yrs again, I know what I'm doing.
