Default 2002 c70 convertible

With the purchase of my 02 c70 convertible recently, I need some advice. I believe in regular maintenance as did the previous owner of this car. Should I use regular gas as is stated in the owners manual? Should I have regular oil installed instead of synthetic oil? How often should my coolants be replaced? Has there been alot of problems with the top mechanism? Has there been alot of problems with the electrical systems on these cars? As you can tell, any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have never owned a Volvo and I want to keep it running well. Jen

I use regular unleaded gas. I also use synthetic oil and transmission fluid. I drive it in the heat down south and intend on driving in Canada as well. My mechanic says the Synth Xmssn fluid is highly recommended (if not mandatory) but DO NOT pressure fill the xmmsn. It causes bubbles and eventual cavitation which leads to xmssn problems (replacement ... $$$$).

If you have the hpt 2.3 motor, Premium Fuel is needed! But according to my local dealer in Northwest Indiana, you don't need a synthetic oil change. But if you live in a warm weather climate, i would do it. I believe coolant should be replaced every 60k miles. If you just purchased this vehicle, it might be wise to do a full fluid flush and filter change, Even if its not needed...its the peace of mind knowing that its all fresh would be comforting.

Default Trans fluid

There is so many posts about trans fluid I can only tell you my story. I have a 2003 C70 conv. automatic. I flushed and used T-5 Toyota fluid and had trans. problems... banged in 1st gear, slippled when cold and sometimes slipped all the time.
I did a google seach for the cheapest place to get only the Volvo fluid that is recommened for MY trans. ( www.autowhearhouse.com, I think) .
The very first drive and eveything was fine, no problems what so ever.....!
I have been using syn. in my motors since 1995 and have never had any problems, even my John Deers mowers. I have one car that requires oil changes every 15,000 and it uses syn oil.
