2004 C70 opinions

Hi All:

I've seen a few of these 2004 convertibles on the market for a very reasonable prices. Is there something I should know?

My wife and I have always wanted a convertible, but with kids it's not practical, unless we can find something safe and inexpensive. Enter the 2004-03 C70. From the looks, it's very nice but the prices which were starting at 35K new are now much much lower only 4 years later. Are these cars duds or are the well made and somewhat trouble free?

Thank you! :)

I love my 2004 C70 conv., but it does have a few design issues that I can report.
1. when it rains, the runoff from the roof drains directly into the driver side seat if you have to open either your door or window for any reason, expect a lapfull of water.
2. Again, when it rains if you have to open your trunk for any reason, expect everything inside to get drenched. the water is supposed to channel off the edges, but tat seems only to work if there is very little water. Anything over will pour right in.
3. still in the trunk area, the inside trunk light is woefully inadequate.

As far as your other questions, mine has been reliable, sturdy and a joy to drive. It's sporty and handles the road well, and is comfortable and safe. Pretty good combination.

Hope that helps
G.

Thank you so much, Gelf13!. It certainly does.

Just avoid the rain. Small price to pay for a very reasonably prices car.

Thank you!

Known issues with the C70

Horrible Turning Ratio
Very Poor rear visibility with the top up.
Extremely low front end that will hang on every parking place marker you get too close to
Slow Top retraction/extension
Front tires sometimes drag fender wells in the turns.
Small Trunk
Mediocre suspension that will transfer every bump in the road.
Aforementioned Rain/water issues.

However, knowing all this going in, it is a super fun car to drive, is a great value in the age range you're looking, and has no real "standard" mechanical issues that come up.
Great seats
Great sound
Reasonable back seats should you need to carry 3-4 ppl for short trips.
Expect high dealer service costs if you take yours to a dealer for service, however, the car really doesn't require a lot of regular maintenance compared to a lot of other manufacturers.
