2008 C70 T5 vibration has cost me 3k€ already, help!
 

Hi All,

Trust me I have looked for an answer to this without success but apologies if I have missed an existing solution on here.

My 2008 C70 T5 auto has a vibration through the steering wheel and general light tremor through the floor, really from any speed. The steering wheel wobbles more noticeably under braking.

I have already:

Replaced the tyres (and therefore had them balanced too)
Replaced all discs and pads
Replaced the front hubs, steering knuckles and front suspension arms
Had the rims straightened and restored
Replaced the front tyres again
Had the tracking done across all 4 wheels

The car has been to 2 normal tyre garages, a local garage and a Volvo main dealer.

The car still vibrates and given that whatever the problem is it was able to shake the front suspension to pieces last time leaving me with a 2k bill I no longer even drive the car for fear of it happening again.

Any thoughts please, I am desperate!

Sounds like the garages that you have been taking your Volvo to have been replacing parts that might not have needed replacing.

Has anyone looked at the CV joint / axle ? If the car shakes while accelerating then it may point to a bad CV joint /axle. Inspect or have someone inspect the rubber boots to see if they are split or torn. If you get a clicking noise when turning the wheels sharp at low speeds all the way to the left or right then this may be the problem. Worn out joints / bearings can cause the shaft to vibrate. I am currently looking at this as a problem for my son's C70.

Tie-rod ends?
Sway bar links?
Lay down under front end with car on jacks in front and start wiggling everything, watching both ends for any movement.

I agree with it most likely being the axles.

If someone aligned it with loose tie rod ends, they ripped you off.

Sway bar links can't cause a vibration.

Quick follow up on the various vibration issues I was having :


Looks like it was the top mounting of one of the front shock absorbers, a bolt was missing and the mounting had started to move around within the hole, expanding it a little. Mountings replaced, shocks needed replacing too. Brake discs also replaced (second time in 12 months) with Brembo rather than presumably cheaper parts used by the previous garage which had already warped and were causing a horrible judder braking on the motorway. Car now super smooth and super quiet!
