98 C70 Starting issue - please read
So I just bought a 99 C70 M56 and love it, figure its time to get rid of the 98 C70 auto. I had the 98 for sale for about a week and then I got into some trouble. The starter doesn't crank over at all anymore. At first it was an intermittent problem, but now I need to short the starter with a flathead to get it to crank. Here is what I have already done:
- replaced starter - replaced positive battery cable to main fuse box - replaced ignition switch - checked all fuses - replaced relays (thank you junk yard for free relays) - replaced gear position sensor - checked ground terminals Using a test light, I was able to confirm the remote wire to the starter gets power when the ignition is turned (which makes no sense for it not to crank over). The battery isn't new, but I also tried jumping it and same issue. Like I said, if I turn the ignition ON to position II and use a flathead to short the starter between the power cable and remote pin (the flat one that sticks out on the bottom of the starter), the car starts right up. Anybody here encounter the same issue before? I really need some advice, the scary thing is that I bought the car with a rebuilt title and it had a new engine put in so its anybody's guess what actually happened with this car. Thanks, Simon |
REplace the Battery..might be surprised
cant remember but what is it that is part of the starting sys and it's between the battery and starter? Now I AM thinking motorcycles here...same poblem..I can use a flathead and jump it...but not use starter switch...oh yeah voltage regulator...I replaced it and was good to go....not sure if that is the same for cars...I'm very limited on mechanics....... But def Change the battery Good luck |
