Default C70 Key and Remote

I just got my c70 ths morning. It came from Florida, 2004 2.3

I did not get a key fob or cartridge for the disc changer. I really want to get a integrated key and remote. I also do not want to pay $380 + programming at the dealer.

Any ideas

You are going to have to get it at the dealer. No other option.

+1 on the Dealer for the key...On the changer, look on the underside and see whom makes the changer (i.e alpine, panasonic) and go on their website to order one, unless you can find the changer model number on there and look on ebay. That way you arent paying a premium at the dealer for the cartridge.

How about the integrated key. Switchblade style. If I am going to get one from the dealer I would rather get the newer key style.

Ive recently done the key dance with a new C70 that came with only one key. After extensive research your options are kind of slim. The key can only be cut by Volvo. It is an ordered item based on your VIN. The remote you can buy second hand off of eBay and save a few bucks, however, after you buy the key and the remote they will both have to be programmed by the dealer also. Keys come from some central facility and will take a few days to get back to you. Unprogrammed keys will start a car sometimes, but the car will either run erratically or not run at all. The remote is the same 4 button remote (one round red button on the bottom right) that works for a large percentage of the pre 2005 Volvos. Some people sell these remotes online with free programming, but this can only be done with certain cars... the C70 (after 2001) IS NOT USER PROGRAMMABLE. This is dealer only and comes with a service and parts charge for a software download. Sorry for the bad news.. I did extensive research on this including talking to a local non dealer Volvo specialist service center...

Thanks, I guess I will bite the bullet and get one from the dealer. My BMW key did not cost half what they want for the Volvo.....

Okay, I looked on ebay, no 04 c70 remotes only up to 03. Is there a difference?

The only difference is that the 03's may be able to be user programmed.. I think the home programming went out in 01 but I may be wrong on that.. they dont advertise the '04's since they have to be taken to the dealer. Know that I bought 3 used fobs and of the 3, only two of them were able to be programmed by the dealer at all. I got him to program one...the second one failed and the third one took the program....who knows why?

I got the remote from ebay. It was listed as 98-03 c70, but it works on the 04. So if you need a remote for an 04 c70 you can get the ones on ebay. $148 to program at the dealer. I asked them what else it did for that kind of money. You can buy a whole alarm system for a little more...........

Don't spend money buying beeper on ebay, if your car is 04 up you need to buy a new beepers and programing in the dealer is the only way, the use one don't work any more...

Thats not exactly true.. the used ones can be reprogrammed..but sometimes the car wont recognize them for some reason... still you can buy a handfull of used remotes for the cost of one new one and I got my dealer to program my third one (after #2 failed) without charging me for the attempt on the second.
