C70 Motor Replacement

Good evening everyone.I'm new here on the boardsbut wasreferred herefor some goodadvise: I have a 2002 C70 and the other day it overheated. I have gotten two mechanicalopinions and both are telling me that it got so hot that 2 of the 5 pistons have 30% of the head missing.

The car has 113K, is in Good condition (cosmetically) and has never been in an accident. No other issues besides the overheating issue.

The cars re-sale value range is anywhere from $6000 -$9600 depending on if you sell it private party or if you see it advertised at a dealership.

My question to all of you is this: How much does it usually run to have a used engine replaced in it, and do you think I will end up getting any of my money out of it? We owe NOTHING on the car, but I am hesitant to spend $4000 for repair, and hope I get more for it when I sell? All advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

thanks again.

RE: C70 Motor Replacement

If you plan on keeping the car for a number of years then it would make sense to replace the engine. You will have less money tied up in a new engine than you will have in a new(er) car. If you plan on putting the engine in and then selling the car you will definitely lose money. Used engines will cost you less than a new engine so you may want to go that route.

It really boils down to how much you like the car and how long you plan on keeping it.
