ignition coil replacement
So total newb here, but I got my codes read today and found out that my #2 coil is not firing. These coils I am told are what volvo uses instead of sparkplugs. I have been working on cars for a while now and don't have any manuals for the 2001 C70 2.4t and am wondering how difficult the repair is?
Could I use the hayes 98-99 s series book to make the repair? Any advice is appreciated. |
RE: ignition coil replacement
Yes you can use that book.
Volvo uses the coils instead of a Dist cap, rotor and wires. You still have spark plugs. Remove the top black plastic cover on the motor and they are under there. |
RE: ignition coil replacement
if think they use coils instead of plugs, and you've been working on cars for awhile. you need to quit working on them. lol

(clapping) way to flame the newb. go ahead and pat yourself on the back.

Thanks! I am going to pick one up now and order the rest later. I went ahead and pulled out the coil. That is pretty rad how every cylinder has its own ignition coil that hooks directly to a spark plug.

RE: ignition coil replacement
Yes it is pretty cool.
Glad you are going to replace the others soon. Usually once one goes the rest aren't far behind. |

Europeans have been using that system for eons. It is the American mfg's that are slow to keep up. If you had a BMW there are a plethora of mfg's that offer coils for a bargain contrasted to what Volvo offers. To my knowlege there are no after market mfg's that offer a selection.
