RE: Irregular idle/check engine light/no RPM's when accelerator is pressed
Hi Tech,
I'm new to the forumn and I own a 99 Volvo C70 Convertible.
I have had "Check Engine" light problems for months.
Tomake is short:
My car seemed to be doing fineuntil one daythe check engine light cameon and the car startedacting funny andslowlybegan to put out black smoke. Needless to say, after a few rounds of scanning the codes and going back and forth to the dealership my car is now running great and not smoking, but the check engine light is still on.
1) I havehad both O2 sensors replaced (front and rear, Bank 1 and Bank 2). $681
2) Ihavehadthe ETM software upgraded and the ETMcleaned, which was no cost to me. (This iscovered underthe extended warranty Volvo has granted for all 1999-2001 Volvos except forS40 and V40 models) - Extention isfor 10 years or 200,000 miles from date of first use (whichever comes first).Warranty also covers all2002 S60 and S70 models with naturally aspirated (i.e. non-turbo) engines and all 2002 C70 vehicles.
3) Everything else (cat conv, etc.) has been scanned/checked by dealership and my carpasses all inspections.
4) The only code showing now is the 261A fuel trim code, and I'm told it might be the computer. Of course, this will be my last resort.
Are there any other options to get rid of this "Check Engine" light before I resort to replacing the computer? I have read through the forum and saw where someone had to tighten the gas cap and someone else had to check the emissions fuse and found it was burned.
Thanks.

RE: Irregular idle/check engine light/no RPM's when accelerator is pressed
I received a letter in the mail concerning a recall with the ETM, which covers a software upgrade and possible cleaning and/or replacement of the ETM. This extentionisfor 10 years or 200,000 miles from date of first use (whichever comes first). Please check with your local dealership for details.
As far as I know, the extended warranty covers:
All 1999-2001 Volvos except forS40 and V40 models
All2002 S60 and S70 models with naturally aspirated (i.e. non-turbo) engines
All 2002 C70 models
You may be able to get reimbursed if you paid to get your ETM repaired or replaced - parts and labor, associated diagnostic charges, taxes paid on ETM-related servicing, and towing/rental fees.

Mine in an 02 c70 was replaced at the dealer for a sum of $373.90 in 2005. There is a cleaner sold by CRC that is made specifically for the MAF. You might want to give a can of that a try first. NAPA sells the product.
