Need New Internal Control Module Error Code: Ecm 9aob

Hi,

I own a 2008 manual volvo c70. I really enjoy driving this car. Two days ago I was driving. I went to shift from fourth to third. When I hit the accelerator, I got nothing. The RPM's went to zero, and the I got a message of: Engine System Service Urgent.

I pulled the car over. Started it again and everything seemed to work. The error message was there still. However, when I went over 3000 RPM's (or something) the car would do the same thing, and something would say: Engine Performance Limited. I had to pull over, and restart the car.

I took it to a volvo mechanic, and he took the codes from the computer: ECM 9AOB. Internal Control Module. He says I need a new internal control module, which should run me about $1200, plus the software update of $200. The other option he said was to just do a software update of $200, then see if it works, and if not, I would have to do the whole thing. I just back from traveling Europe for 6 months and I have so little money it's comical.

It worries me that the computer is telling me the computer is bad.

Any suggestions? Has anyone had this issue before? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am having the same issue with my 2011 C70.
i replaced my ECU after having the ecm-9a0b code but I got the same code after 10 minutes of driving. I am questioning whether it is a problem with the ecu or some other problem. The engine runs great when I erase the code but it starts idling ruff when the code is triggered.

Some helpful information I found:
