Rear Wheel Issue...please help!

3 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, I have a 2003 C70. I was recently in a car park and as I slowly turned from one lane to another (less than 1mph) my nearside rear wheel mounted the kerb and then dropped off. I later noticed that the rear of the car was very skittish when driving. Upon further inspection the rear wheel is leaning in, toeing out and appears to have moved backwards! (see photos) I have had it in four garages and nobody can tell me what the problem is! I have renewed the axle bushes and the rear springs, but it has made no difference. Somebody suggested the rear beam may be bent, but my local Volvo dealer advised me that they have never heard of a beam bending, they have never sold one and that they are no longer available in any case! Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Just a thought, check the delta link that holds the rear suspension together. Maybe it pulled out a little bit.

Rear alignment

Take it to a GOOD alignment shop. They will fix it. My friend took hiss Chevy truck to the dealer 3 times to get it "thrust" (4 wheel) aligned. They NEVER got it right! The old mom/pop alignment/service place near me finally did it & no problems last 2 yrs. All shops are not the same. Talk to folks who know cars.Ask them about a good shop. Don't throw parts at the problem! Good luck!

+1 on the recommendation to start by finding a good alignment shop. I had my VW CC at a dealer (notorious for tire eating & alignment issues) and the tech suggested something was bent and it was tough for them to get it back into spec. I've had the alignment done twice since then (at other shops) and always ask for the print out. Both times the car came back spot on and drove true. The VW also uses 235/45-17s, and with tires that wide on a relatively light car, they tend to nibble (follow road seams/cracks). The C70/S60s are very similar and will also amplify any alignment issues.
