Timing belt tension

I have what is probably an amateur question. Would timing belt tension impact timing? I have the following code "B" Camshaft Position - Timing over Advanced or System performance Bank 1.

I replaced the timing belt immediately upon buying the car, so although I think it is running well, I can't compare to how it performed before the belt change. I also don't know if the code was present prior to the belt change. I've verified that the belt is not off a tooth. Could an improper setting on the tensioner cause this code?

Does the tensioner need to be set with absolute precision?

Getting the tension right is important, and how it is set depends on the temp of the engine and components when it is set, but IMO as long as all the marks still line up the tension should not affect the sensor. Maybe ES6T will pop in and confirm.

Correct. The tensioner is set based on temperature at the time it is set. That code is most likely a fault in the CVVT system, like the control valve or the CVVT hub.

ES6T - I have had a similar CE message since I changed Front cam seals, timing belt,tensioners...had to go back in to change waterpump. It takes about 120 miles for the code to come on. However, is this really important to fix( exhaust timing advanced)?the care runs like a top, gas mileage is great....I am not sure I could do any better going in there again, unless the control valve or hub just happened to go at the same time I did this? I was so careful when I did it the first time, painted marks, etc. As you know it is a real PITA to work in that area..thoughts?
