00 S40 will not start
Hello all. I have a 00 s40 Phase 1 1.9T. The weather lately killed my 8 year old battery. I installed a brand new one today and now it will not turn over. What are some things I need to be looking at? My first crank fired and then died and haven't got it to sputter since. Fuel delivery froze up?

Does the car have coolant in it? Or all water?
If it's not cranking, you likely have a battery connection problem. |

with the headlights on turn the key to start, do the head lights dim at all? You may not be energizing the crank relay, is the car in park with your foot on the brake? Neutral start switch. Do you hear the starter trying to engage (lights should dim)? Possible starter issue.

Almost there
Alright. So today I double checked my work from my servicing to make sure that the coolant hadn't frozen, the spark plugs still get some juice, the air filter being clean, and the compression levels. I checked the bleed valve on the fuel rail next to the injectors and it is getting fuel. I about killed my new battery so I hooked it up to an 12 volt/ 10 amp hour charger. Once it said it was charged I hooked everything back together and tried one last time. SHE FIRED!! But here is the bad news. She shut off and will not come back. When the key turned, everything was normal for 2 seconds. Then it just quit. :confused:I'm still open to suggestions for how to get her running again. Thank you.

Any codes? It's tough if the battery died.

The battery isn't dead and there aren't any codes.

You need to put a fuel pressure tester on it. You could have enough flow to get fuel out of the shrader valve but not enough pressure to run the car. Key ON you need 60 psi and when you turn the key OFF the pressure should stay near 60 psi and not bleed off immediately.

Thank you
I would like to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the pool of thought. I did a pressure test and pulled 10psi. I assumed that meant that the fuel pump wasn't working properly. I replaced that and everything is smooth sailing. Once again, thank you.
