Default 01 S40 SRS Doubt

Hi there.

A few years ago my dad bought a 01' S40 from a frend of his and, as far as i know, it was on a colission before his dad bought it. The airbags were replaced but the SRS light is still on. 6 months ago a bought a dedicated scanner at the same time I replaced a faulty ABS module, so I hooked up the scanner to see what codes the SRS module had but the scanner couldn't connect to the module so I'm assuming the SRS module is faulty.

Question: Is there ANYTHING I have to look for to replace before replacing the module to asure the airbags won't unintentionally activate when the battery is plugged in?

Additional Info: The car works fine, and there are no codes at all, and the only thing I know was replaced are the airbags (both driver and passanger sides).

Thanks for your help!

Not all scanners can read Volvo SRS fault codes. I'd probably swing by a dealer or a Volvo friendly shop to have them view the codes before replacing modules.

Thanks for your answer but, as I said, I bought a dedicated scanner for Volvo so it would read the SRS module. I actually can read the signals that the SRS retrieve but I can't access to the module itself (in my car) when I try to read the codes.

The other thing is, there are not "friendly" enough shops here to try with another scanner. Apparently here in Chile it doesn't matter if its a 15 YO car, if you're on a volvo you must be rich so, for me it's actually cheaper just to throw a new module in that it's to take it to the shop and attemp to scan it, so I'm taking my chances, but I don't want an airbag blowing in my face.

I replaced my SRS module with no problems. It's located between the seats under the center console about where your elbow would sit while driving.

By "dedicated Volvo scanner" do you mean a DiCE tool? Because that is the only scanner that will read the SRS module. It can even reset the module (assuming it's not failed).
