Default 06 s40 2.4i issues. Help needed

I have a car I bought. This car has had change overs of everything. Newest issue. On OBDII reads misfire on 1, oil leak on passenger side behind timing chain. Engine runs lime crap, message on car is to shift up or slow down. Cat is running at temp. What do I do with this car. Changed plugs, and coil on 1 not a change. Ready to drowned car in lake..anyone know how I can fix it?

are there any other OBD fault codes other than the misfire? Oil leak can be either the cam seal or the VVT gear leaking. I suspect you may have a problem with the VVT, but that should throw a code. For the coil pack, check the connector as well to make sure its not cracked or damaged. Cat running at temp? was there a code for this?

I had a bad VVT but it never once threw a code in almost a year, just had it replaced, was lucky and got to it in time. I too thought I should get a code, I even asked garage why I did not.

A leaking VVT won't set a code because there is no sensor that monitors for leaks. If the VVT malfunctions so that the timing is incorrect, a code will be set. If it affects emissions, the check engine light will come on.
