2001 - Center Dash Creaking Noise

Hi All,
My '01 S40 has developed a creaking noise from the center dash. IT happens mostly when accelerating and decelerating. It seems to come from behind the climate control panel. I want to remove it to see what's up, but was not sure if I first have to pull off the control knobs (they seem very firm). What's the procedure to remove this panel? (has anyone had a noise like this?)
Thanks!
Anthony

Do you have the stock radio or aftermarket radio? If aftermarket, could it be problem?

The process is hard to describe but not really difficult. There are several hidden screws to remove in the rear center console, then the front center console. Then pull the radio which exposes a couple more screws.

I would highly suggest the old VADIS for your 2001. If you ever get a newer model consider VIDA. I just got VIDA 2010B and got it to work with windows xp. Really nice seeing the exploded views of everything.

Thanks Hudini - I have a Stock Radio (HU-615) so it pulls out very easily by just pushing the two tabs on the side and pulling out the unit (this in not like the 05+ models which have the radio unit hidden behind the center console). I checked and the radio is not making the noise, it really come from the upper part of the console where I have the three knobs for fan, ventilation adjustment and temp. It looks like the top part has it's own cover panel which can be pulled out, but I did not want to force. If you have the VADIS diagram it would be great. Thanks so much!
