2001 S40 center console removal
#3
there are two screws in the bottom of the armrest bucket. Then remove the rubber mat from in front of the shifter. Then pull on the tabs to remove the shifter trim ring. Then you can access the two screws to the rear of the shifter. Pull way-up on the parking brake and the console should slide a little backwards then up.
If you cannot get your socket to stay in place a new storage compartment with door is $200 from the dealer. Or go to a junkyard and get the console with cup-holders and a new shifter trim ring with 12v accessory plug (this is what I am currently doing, my trim ring with socket from the dealer was $75 and will be here in two days)
