RE: 2001 S40 suspension noise
The most common problem is the sway bar bushings. Take off the front tire and lookdownthe sway bar. I'll bet that your bushing fell out. It is very common - mine has the same issue. I'm just waiting to save money b4 I can fix it. Not a driveability or safety issue - just an annoyance.

RE: 2001 S40 suspension noise
I already changed the bushings but was still making noise after a week or so after. I went back this week and the bushings are fine, mechanic said that it's the sway bar itself that is a little worn so the bushing doesn't sit well in place. He told me he put an extra peace of rubber on the sway bar to help it from sliding off. It's okay, for now atleast. Does this make sense to anyone? He's an honest guy and desn't want me to waste the money to change the bar. Also my car takes the bumps really hard, I've changed the drop links, lower balljoints and the bushings. What else can I look at, any bushings in the back?
