I have a 2001 S40 Turbo with 127K miles and the tranny fluid has never been changed. I live in hot Florida. What do you all recommend? Drain and refill or leave it alone. I have never had any problems with it.

Default V40/2000 xmission

Ive hit 100,000...and will be interested to flush/exchange whatever you did. Since ure saying u had to put 10 some quarts, seems u got most out.
How exactly did you do the job.
The dia of tube/hose ure talking about could be 10mm, about 0.39 inches.

Q2 is did you feel any difference in the performance, shift or even miles per gallon...after the fluid change...?

Thnx

I had 180k on my 2003 and it started to slip so badly I ended up changing it out with one from a 2001 with about 100k. You have to be very careful about flushing it repeatedly it can cause the clutches to slip after a while. If the fluid stays some what clean enough and you don't jam the car into drive when it is still moving in reverse you may get 200k out of it.

You ve got a name for a reason, the name which starts with "H" !!!

Remember when u expect it...it won't break ! OR
If u do change the darn dirty 10 yr old oil, it may get upset, offended....and tell you it don't wanna move !

Good luck..even if u don't need

swedllander: I'm thinking a 1985 300D is worth about $1800-2500. It's a very old car and it requires plenty of maintenance. My mother in-law had a 1983 300TD wagon with 205k miles and boy did that car go to the dealer for repair a lot. Every year or so they had to fix the turbo so it could make it up hills and get onto the highway. I hated to open the hood given it constantly leaked oil and was so dirty from the diesel fuel. It was nasty and slow but it did have a very soft suspension. Not crazy about those old leather seats either.

I know I'm reviving a 9 month old thread but after reading thru it, it got me thinking.... Like others, I'm skeptical of a "non-maintenance" transmission. If I have a high mileage car and can't find any service records, I won't touch it because I've found out the hard way the trans acts up within a few months. I know some manufacturers use a sealed transmission. You can't do anything to it and end up buying a new one every 60-80kmi. I looked thru the maintenance schedule on my S40 and nowhere does it say to change the trans fluid or filter. I did read that you should change the fluid if the TCM has thrown a fault code of 0042 or 0046. (Maybe this is when the yellow up arrow is on? )
I looked thru my old maintenance records from previous owners and found the dealer had changed the fluid in 2008. All it says is "Customer request transmission service." Then says "Quantity=12 Type= SYNATF Total= $275"
5 years later and it looks like new to me. I'm not about to fix what ain't broke.
