Question 2002 S40 wont start

S40 battery shows its full but won't start. Alarm came on when we attached battery charger. Husband states dashboard lights flashed on. Interior lights won't come on, hazards won't work either. My husband thinks the fuses look fine by visual inspection. Our daughters car has been in the cold last run on thanksgiving. He disconnected and reconnected the battery. Keyless lock device won't work either. I wonder if someone triggered her cars alarm and there might be a security lock involved too?:-)

My guess is that it has a dead battery. After you have it checked or charged, lock and unlock the drivers door with the key to disarm the alarm. Then try to start the car.

You had a delay in getting a response to your thread because you posted in the NEW MEMBERS area instead of the S40 section where phone check for issues.

+1 dead battery. Lead acid batteries allowed to fully discharge and remain that way for long periods will get sulfation and not take a charge. Any car that sits for long periods needs a battery maintainer hooked up. These are cheap 1.5 amp trickle chargers that keep the battery fully charged. It's low cost insurance.
