2003 s40 evap issue
Hi everyone, new to the forums!
My girlfriend’s mom has a 03 s40 with about 81,000 miles on it. It’s recently been giving a issue staying running after initially turning on, you have to fight with it 3 or 4 times before it stays going. It gave an Evap leak code, and a rich mixture code. While it was running I took the gas cap off and it started dying out. Plus I get a strong smell of gas fumes from the rear end of the car. I sourced it down to it being the Evap purge valve. My question is, how do I go about changing the valve? Also are there any other things that could cause this issue? Does anybody have instructions on how to change this? Thanks in advance!

which codes did you get? evap codes can point to torn vacuum lines issue with the canister or a faulty purge valve. Knowing which codes is important as your combo of a mixture issue plus evap could both caused by a vacuum line issue. The purge valve is located up on the driver's side of the radiator and has two hoses and an electrical connection. you can buy a replacement online via the usual sources - FCP Euro, Europarts, IPD USA and Tasca parts are the stores I use regularly
