Default 2004 s40 - Input requested

I am going to look at this car on Saturday. I know very little about them, except to ask about the timing belt which I've been told should be serviced around 100k. The dealer was going to check to see if it had been done, but if not, offered to do it if I ended up buying the car.

Are there any issues I should be aware of with this particular model? Questions I should ask? I was curious how the FWD was in the snow. I had a FWD 240 wagon as my first car and it was a tank in the snow with the right tires. I'm hoping for similar performance with this.

Any info and input is much appreciated!

that's a 2004.5 S40 - which is "gen 2". Its the first model year but shares the platform and many components with other Volvo models - unlike the Gen 1 which was a bit unique. I don't know if its worth $6999 for a T5 with 100K miles considering the same dealer also has a 2011 VW CC for $7999... PS your 240 was RWD. The FWDs are fine in the snow as they have traction control - but you will want snows in CT.

That is way too expensive for a 13 year old car.

The only reason I have kept my car for as long as I have (2004) is because it does maintain a bit of value over the years. They are solid cars and if you keep it maintained (even if you don't) it will still run. The thing about Volvo though is you have to become your own mechanic at times because it's difficult to find a reputable mechanic that won't charge an arm and a leg for something you can fix yourself.

plenty of Volvo shops here in New England - including dealers and factory trained indy's.

They do very well in the snow with the right tires. Is this the first generation 2000-2004 or 2004.5-2012?
