2006 t5 S40 - leaks water
 

I constantly have floods in the rear driver side whenever it rains heavy. I have 2 place 2-3 towels to absorb the water that collects. I have had the roof drains unclogged many times but it continues to happen. Any ideas on how to fix this problem:confused:

Did the just clear the lines at the sunroof or did the take the a pillars out and clean the elbows

What damien said. Pull the pillars if you haven't and check out what's going on, they are subject to getting clogged and/or not long enough even on some (I thought there was a class action for that)

Wow! That car was wet for a long time! Good clear video, by the way.

Concerning the sunroof gutter drains, I haven't had the rear drains apart, but I found that my front drains had THREE different joints before the water got out to the fender. There was a short elbow at the sunroof that fit over a spigot on the sunroof frame, and the final joint from the downtube to the "passthrough" into the fender. VIDA doesn't show the upper elbow, but it sure was in the car!

If any of those joints has parted, you will get water in the wrong place.

I cleaned the passthrough (the rubber elbow) in place by making a "roto-rooter" out of a bicycle brake cable wire. Some folks have been able to remove that lower passsthrough and replace it, but there was no hope for my hands getting in there.

I saw a clever suggestion on troubleshooting: pour a measured amount of water slowly into the gutter at the top and check the volume of water that comes out.

Volvo is being sued in a class-action lawsuit over this issue (in 6 states only though). It's currently being appealed.

That video is only half the problem. The tubing shrinks and becomes disconnected. You can get the new tubing for about $18 (enough for both sides) from the dealer. However, I would not just install that and be done with it. The black elbows clog up, which is the main cause of the tubing coming out. The elbow needs to be removed and the end cut off for better flow or else you'll be right back in the same position again soon. They can be very difficult to re-install. Make sure they are FULLY installed into the body of the car.

Did you have this repair done at a dealership? or some side shop. Go into your trunk and check for water trail marks, from the rear window, specially around the left side. Is your spare tire wet?

This is NOT an extremely technical fix. If the water all drains from the sunroof gutter through one of the four tubes to the ground, you're done. Access to the parts is a matter of unsnapping covers.

In turn, each tube is a series of tubes and joints. All joints need to be tight, all tubes need to be long enough (!) connected, and clear.

1/2" copper plumbing tube fits into the Volvo down-tubes, and you can find plastic tube that fits into the connectors. You can either blow through with compressed air or bend a crank into a piece of cable and "roto-root" the blockages. (If your fingers are tiny, you can ever remove the forward lower through-body fittings).

Have a look at the videos and then see what your car looks like "inside."
