2007 S40 intermittent:Dash Lights flash/Wipers on/Trans only 2nd Gear
My daughter's S40 has developed a weird problem...
3 times it's suddenly gone into a freakout state...the dash lights all blink on/off, the wipers begin to wipe and the car won't shift beyond 2nd gear. They've parked it and started later that or/next day and it' ok until it isn't The dealership says they're not seeing a "Code" registered so they'll only be able to help if it's doing it's crazy dance and they can check it... I have a Saab that has "limp" mode, it basically will only go a max speed of about 15-20 and goes nutso if there's a major problem. Sounds similar.

I'd suspect an intermittant alternator/voltage regulator issue - check the voltage when it goes into this mode to see if you are dropping down to 12V vs the normal 14 or so with the engine running. This can cause the car to go into limp mode.
